Green Ovingham is a voluntary community group in the village of Ovingham in the Tyne Valley Northumberland. Green Ovingham’s vision is ‘Challenging climate change by promoting and supporting sustainable lifestyles in the Ovingham area’. Sustainability is the key to our existence as a group. Our intention is to improve the resilience of the community to climate change, and to likely future reduced availability of oil (‘peak oil’). We provide a carbon footprint calculator on our website which enables residents to check their energy use and to receive advice on how they can cut costs and reduce carbon emissions. Our interests include promoting better waste recycling and reuse, improving public transport and encouraging its wider use, promoting local food and conserving the local environment.
We are members of the Low Carbon Communities Network which provides opportunities to learn from over 100 other groups around Britain.
We meet at the Bridge End pub (back room) the 2nd Sunday of every month (if you become a member of the email group, you will receive an automatic email reminder about the next meeting). Everyone is very welcome and we look forward to meeting new members.
We also have an email group that you are very welcome to join. This email group currently has around 30 members made up mainly of Ovingham (and the surrounding area) residents. The purpose of this email group is to allow its members to contact other members about general information that might be of interest to others in the group eg "I'm going to the Wylam dump on Sat, does anyone want anything taken?" or "I've got item X that is surplus to requirements, would anyone like it?" To join this group or to make contact for other reasons please email info@greenovingham.org.uk.
