ENERGY GROUP

Nice little video to help you save water and energy: click here to view the video.

Summary of discussions in the energy group at the open meeting on March 20th

It was agreed that reducing energy use depended on measuring and monitoring, as well as raising awareness.

Proposed actions:

  1. Launch an electricity monitor library – borrowing 20 monitors from Transition Tynedale for 6 months. Using a monitor can lead to people reducing their electricity use considerably, and have a knock-on effect on all energy use
  2. Set up an “energy surgery” to which energy experts could be invited to answer villagers’ queries.
  3. Invite residents of Wark to speak about their solar panel installation project.
  4. Draw up a leaflet with energy-saving ideas to circulate round the village.
  5. Suggest that residents interested in a wider, longterm project leading to generation of renewable electricity join with Transition Tynedale to investigate local and regional possibilities. (TT are in the very early stages of a hydro-electric power scheme on the Tyne at Hexham) Transition. Tynedale’s website is www.transitiontynedale.org.uk
  6. Use all existing village groups and networks to spread the word about our energy saving projects.

ELECTRICITY MONITORS
Green Ovingham is setting up a "library" from which you can borrow an electricity monitor and find out which of your gadgets use the most electricity. It's a great help in reducing your bills!

If you'd like to borrow a monitor, ring 07901 937114, leaving a voice or text message with your contact details, and someone will get back to you when a monitor becomes available.
